Would it be disrespectful of me to go to India?

Well, you really can go to India. Remember India is a "secular" country. So, there wont be any problem for your personal beliefs. You can even go to temples, but since you belong to an another religion, there are some restrictions. For eg: You will not be allowed to enter Santum Santorum. But I believe you need not worry about these, as your cause for visit is quite different. You can enjoy the trip very much. Good luck!
