Maytag clothes washer shakes violently ?

My washing machine will shake as if the clothes in it are making it out of balance, but this will occur if I have a light load or heavy. I have even tried it with no clothes and it does it. It is leveled, and doesn't do it every time, but 75% of the time.Only happens on spin cycle. What could it be?
