The problem is that for the best quality fur, you need to skin the animal alive. Besides the immense pain of death, the animals were subject to bad living conditions. In food farms, the animals die in less painful methods. However, you are correct in saying that it's not too different since the animals don't live in a very pleasurable situation in either case.
