The world of literature?

Sherman Alexie(Superman and me) and Julia Alvarez(Daughter of Invention) and/or their characters as “outsiders.” Both seem to be at odds with mainstream American culture.Consider how anyone entering a new “world”—such as the world of academia or the world of professional writing or the world of literature—is an immigrant.
