What happens to Umps or Refs when they make overtly bad calls?

They can go under review by the governing body of whatever sport they are in. For instance, a couple of years ago an NFL game was terribly mis-officiated and the head of the NFL reviewed the game and suspect calls and warned the referees that called the game. Same thing happens in baseball and basketball. They are then watched closely in future games to prevent what happened in the NBA with the ref that was altering the outcome of games and had Mafia ties for betting.
