Is there any best way to select and prepare papaya seeds for planting?

I eat papaya as much as possible. I love it. Sometimes I get a particularly yummy one and would love to reproduce it by planting the seeds and growing my own tree. Also, how long does a papaya plant have to mature before it starts bearing it's luscious fruit?
